About Valley Thunder Basketball.
Valley Thunder Basketball is a club program designed to help develop student-athletes in the West San Fernando Valley and Ventura County Area. Our goal is to prepare players for the High School level by providing a strong fundamental base, advanced understanding of strategic concepts, a detailed work ethic, and perspective about how important athletics are in conjunction with to family commitments, schoolwork, and various religious beliefs.
Valley Thunder provides intense and energetic training while making adjustments toward each student-athlete’s skill level and personal needs. Both written handouts and video evaluations are used to help each student-athlete maximize his or her potential as a basketball player.
Valley Thunder began in the Spring of 1999 with a single 4th grader playing in ARC, and has now worked with over 500 players of multiple ages and skill sets. While many of our teams have participated in regional and national tournaments, our goal has always been to prepare players to be successful student-athletes. Off the court, Valley Thunder teaches a player that family, faith and academics should be honored before the game. On the court, we emphasize an understanding of team defense and movement without the ball, which provides a smooth transition into any high school system or style of play.

Our son Chandler played four years with Coach Kenney and the Thunder. Like all the really good coaches, Coach Kenney is a teacher. The education starts with basketball but quickly expands into other parts of life. Coach has intensity and integrity and inspires the same in his players. “Play hard, Play smart.” It is a good lesson taught by a great coach.Michael and Susanne Abbott
